Bearing Standards
The ISO standards this bearing database is built on: which numbers come from a standard, which come from a manufacturer catalogue, and where each one is tabulated.
The standards behind this librarywhat each one fixes, and where to read it
All bearings| Standard | Edition | Title |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 15 | ISO 15:2011 | Boundary dimensions, general plan |
| ISO 5753-1 | ISO 5753-1:2009 | Radial internal clearance |
| ISO 582 | ISO 582:1995 | Chamfer dimension limits |
| ISO 492 | ISO 492:2023 | Tolerance classes and symbols |
| ISO 281 | ISO 281:2007 | Rating life, and why no ratings appear here |
Every designation page in this library cites these standards by name. Until now the citations were plain text, because the main standards index is built around fastener product standards — a page whose subject is a bore × pitch × length table. A bearing standard is a different shape of document, so it gets its own page and its own treatment here rather than being forced into that template.
Where a table is missing, and whyeach of these pages says so rather than leaving a gap
- ISO 582
- Chamfer limit values — The 1979 edition gave each minimum a single maximum; the 1995 edition made the maximum depend on bore. Two editions cannot share one column, so the page gives the ISO 15 minimums and the rule that actually governs a design, and names the edition a reader has to check.
- ISO 492
- Tolerance values — The 2023 edition replaced the 2014 one, revised the symbol system and extended the limits over larger diameters, so figures quoted without their edition disagree with each other in ways a reader cannot detect from the table itself. The page records the classes and the symbols, which are stable, and stops there.
- ISO 281
- Load ratings and the reliability factors used with them — This standard defines how a rating is calculated from internal geometry; it does not supply the number. That is the reason no load rating appears anywhere in this database.
